The Memorial Scholarship Foundation was established by veterans of the 2nd Battalion 47th Infantry “Panthers” in honor of our fallen Brothers, who were killed in action in Vietnam from 1966-1970. We are an IRS-approved 501(c)(3) non-profit organization (IRS EIN 04-3830266). All contributions are fully tax-deductible and are invested in FDIC-insured certificates of deposit, from which interest proceeds are used to fund annual scholarship awards. JaWan Thompson (A/2/47, 1968-1969), Treasurer for the Scholarship Foundation, has fiduciary responsibility for investments and disbursements of funds.

Board of Trustees

Governance of the Memorial Scholarship Foundation is provided through the Foundation Officers and Trustees. This group sets broad policy for the Foundation, has fiduciary responsibility for the organization, appoints members of the Scholarship Committee and ensures compliance with our constitution and bylaws.

Scholarship Committee

The Scholarship Committee is comprised of four (4) volunteers appointed by the Memorial Scholarship Foundation officers and trustees, and includes representatives of the 2nd, 3rd and 4th Battalions of the 47th Infantry Regiment who served in Vietnam. The committee meets at least once each year, either in person or via conference call, to review scholarship applications and make the award(s). Committee members are appointed by the Memorial Scholarship Foundation Board of Trustees for unlimited terms and serve until replaced by the Board.

Contributions

By contributing to the Memorial Scholarship Foundation, you help open the doors of opportunity for young people in pursuit of higher education. Our foundation relies entirely upon private donations to further its mission of preserving our soldiers' memories and providing a brighter, more prosperous future for all.

100% of donations received are dedicated exclusively towards providing scholarships; officers, trustees and committee members’ positions are strictly voluntary and receive no compensation. In addition, donated funds are never used for administrative purposes (such as mailings, promotional materials, website maintenance, etc.), the cost of which are wholly donated by our officers, trustees and committee members.

On behalf of the officers and trustees of the Scholarship Foundation, as well as our deserving scholarship recipients, we sincerely thank those who have supported our continuing efforts.
